My Guest Post on “Though Cowards Flinch”

I did a guest post last week, in honour of International Women’s Day, on a UK socialist blog called “Though Cowards Flinch”. You can find it here

I would like to thank @DaveSemple, the coordinator of the blog, for inviting me to contribute.

It’s about the commercialisation of Greek birth services. It has a lot of parallels with the dangers of the commercialisation of education quite frankly, and for this reason, I hope you will forgive me for digressing away from ELT for a while, and talking about another topic that is very important to me.

Thanks!

    Superb article Sara!!

I hope followers of your blog are not living in a ELT bubble and neglecting this piece simply because it ïsn´t about ¨teaching¨.
It is about teaching, it´s about educating ourselves as teachers and thinking about the most basic questions which effect us as human beings.
What could be more basic than bringing the next generation into the world.
    Loved the article.
    Thanks again.

Thank you Marxist ELF. A few people have contacted me via twitter and email from the ELT world to say they enjoyed this blog post too. I intend to start blogging a bit more on political blogs (not that mine isn’t political of course, but you know what I mean) and am happy that I have received some invitations to blog about what’s going on in Greece as people are interested in the situation here viz a viz the austerity measures and the resistance to them. As you said, there *is* nothing more basic (and important) than how we bring the next generation into the world. It is often said that you can tell the state of a country from taking a look at its health care and education provision. It seems so many of the countries of the world are found very very wanting in this respect, and there is a need for immediate change and improvement. So many parallels with ELT!
